Our Hearts Grew Today ~ Connecting, Learning, and Being Inspired!!

Today Concord participated in an Ability Awareness Festival.  We invited my former K-1 student Carli Henrotay to come speak to us about her story.  She was diagnosed shortly after starting kindergarten with FOP, an extremely rare disease in which her body is basically creating a second skeleton.  She is an incredibly inspiring person, and I was just so proud of her!!
We also heard from a Taylor, a current LHS student who has started Project Self, a curriculum which focuses on lessons to help students experience a bit of what it
might be like to have different abilities.
We made and presented them these cards after they spoke.

Carli brought her support dog, Patience, as well as Ethan, who is still in training.

After the assembly, we moved to some different classrooms and experimented with changing our abilities a bit.

To finish off our day, we headed to our buddies classroom and went on a empathy scavenger hunt and then focused on compassion.  I do believe that our hearts grew today!!
